Internet resources and custom buttons
Internet resources are available to enhance your enjoyment of weather monitoring, by displaying current weather images as a backdrop to your data.
The resources are provided as examples in the demo version and are not live data. The section about updates is valid only in the full version of the software and is included here for reference.
How to view them
The weather display and weather station screens have five icon buttons at the bottom right. These allow access to the image resources and behave separately on each screen. The button functions depend on how you have configured your preferences.
Currently, there are four resources available:
- Local image
- UK Wind/Temperature Map
- Infra-Red Satellite Image
- Visible Light Satellite Image
The local image enables you to choose your own background. It can be set separately for each button, therefore up to five separate images could be set if you so choose.
The other image choices require an Internet connection; if this is not available, the software will not be able to show these resources.
Updates
The software will update resources automatically every hour, and resources are updated at the web site once an hour. However, satellite images will change on their own schedule and may not be different hour to hour - it depends on the satellite's orbit.
If you choose not to use automatic updating, the third icon at the top of the software (looping arrows) can be used to update your Internet resources manually at any time.
Please wait while resources download. This should take only a few seconds or up to a minute depending on your download speed.
If you use a modem to connect to the internet, you will need to open the connection before downloading the internet resources. Unfortunately the software does not yet initiate an internet connection by itself.
Notes
The software is capable of being updated with new resources when they become available. This will normally be announced, so there is no need to check too often. It can be checked with the 'Update Resource Tables' option on the main menu. The date of the last resource check is marked on the status bar at the bottom of the software, which will change briefly to 'Updating Resource Table' during the update process. New resources will appear in the Preferences panel.
The UK Map is timestamped as UTC (GMT) time. Remember in the summer you're an hour ahead!
Likewise, the infra-red satellite image is timestamped with Norwegian time which is an hour ahead of the UK.
